Platelet satellitism is a phenomenon in which platelets accumulate around leukocytes, especially neutrophils, in blood smears. The phenomenon is usually observed in vitro and can mimic thrombocytopenia during automated counting. A very rare phenomenon!

Hairy Cell Leukemia: Lymphocyte Morphology in Blood Smear

🔬 “Hairy” lymphocytes. A female patient with anemia (Hb 58 g/L) and thrombocytopenia (47×10⁹/L). On a peripheral blood smear, stained with Romanowsky, characteristic lymphocytes with irregular “hairy” cytoplasmic projections are observed.
