Basophilic Stippling of Erythrocytes in Blood Smear

What basophilic stippling of erythrocytes in a blood smear means: diagnostic significance in thalassemia, lead poisoning, and sideroblastic anemias.

🔬 Basophilic stippling of erythrocytes.
In adults, mild basophilic stippling has no specific diagnostic significance, similar to anisocytosis, and only indicates a non-specific reactive process. The detection of a large number of erythrocytes with basophilic stippling has diagnostic significance in thalassemia, lead poisoning, and sideroblastic anemia of any genesis.
