Blasts in CBC for Chronic Myeloid Leukemia

Clinical case of CML: 7% blasts, myelocytes, and metamyelocytes in CBC. Cell morphology and the importance of blast count in myeloid leukemia.

Woman, 81 years old. Blasts do not always indicate acute leukemia. In this case, the appearance of 7% blasts, 5% metamyelocytes, 5% myelocytes, 12% band neutrophils, and 32% segmented neutrophils in the complete blood count suggests a myeloproliferative disease – chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). An accurate blast count in this case is necessary for treatment monitoring.
