Rosai-Dorfman Disease: Lymph Node Cytology

Cytological features of Rosai-Dorfman disease: cervical lymph node imprint smear, emperipolesis in large histiocytes, and mature lymphocytes.

❗A 55-year-old woman, Rosai-Dorfman Disease. 🔬Cervical lymph node imprint smear.

✅Rosai-Dorfman disease is a histiocytosis characterized by nodal or extranodal proliferation of large histiocytes/macrophages with signs of emperipolesis. Intact hematopoietic cells (most often lymphocytes, less often plasma cells, neutrophilic granulocytes, erythrocytes) are present in the cytoplasm of histiocytes. S-100, Oct2, and cyclin D1 expression is detected in histiocytes with emperipolesis. The surrounding area is dominated by small mature lymphocytes and numerous polytypic plasma cells.
