Emperipolesis in Megakaryocytes: Bone Marrow Cytology

The phenomenon of emperipolesis in bone marrow: active penetration of intact cells into the megakaryocyte cytoplasm in a puncture smear.

Emperipolesis is a process of active penetration of one cell into another without the destruction of the latter.

Bone marrow aspirate was examined using light microscopy. The image was obtained at ×1000 magnification using an iPhone camera.

The material was kindly provided by cytologist Yanna Samsonova of the Republican Clinical Hospital, Ufa.
