Hyaline-Droplet Casts in Urine Sediment in Myeloma

Morphology of hyaline-droplet casts in urine sediment in a patient with multiple myeloma: diagnostic significance and microscopy in nephropathy.

Microscopy of urine sediment. Hyaline-droplet casts in myeloma. A patient from the hematology department, diagnosed with multiple myeloma. Protein 2.0 g/L. Hyaline-droplet casts are colorless or pale gray, coarse, cylindrical formations with an uneven contour, consisting of flat droplets of uniform or varying size with a characteristic dull luster. They are found in the urine of patients with chronic kidney diseases such as chronic glomerulonephritis and pyelonephritis with a nephrotic component, amyloidosis, and paraproteinemic nephrosis.
