Cold Agglutination in Complete Blood Count: A Case Study

Impact of cold autoimmune hemolytic anemia on analyzer parameters: erythrocyte agglutination, false MCHC, and correction by warming at 37 °C.

🔬 This is what the blood of a patient with cold AIHA looks like — erythrocytes literally “clumped together”. In unstained smears, there is pronounced agglutination. 📍Patient, 73 years old, hematology department. ❄ Before incubation, the analyzer showed absurd values: RBC — 0.42, MCHC — almost 2000 g/L!

🔥 After warming at 37 °C, everything normalized — RBC increased to 3.23 × 10¹²/L, MCHC decreased to 326 g/L.
