🩸HISTORY OF THE DISCOVERY OF THE HEMATOPOIETIC ORGAN. ✅Ernst Neumann, a brilliant young professor in Königsberg, shocked the hematological community in 1868 by demonstrating that erythrocytes (as previously thought) are not produced in the liver, but in the bone marrow. ✅However, many more years would pass until 1928, when the Russian physician Mikhail Arinkin introduced bone marrow puncture and examined a sample of the obtained aspirate under a microscope. ✅Some still believed that blood in an adult is produced in the spleen; they were mistaken. Life without a spleen turned out to be quite possible. 👉Source: Marc Boogaerts - A History of Blood. From Primitive Rituals to Scientific Discoveries, 2019
