Bone Marrow in Polycythemia Vera: A Clinical Case

A clinical case of polycythemia vera (erythremia): complete blood count parameters with plethora and bone marrow smear morphology during therapy.

Sternal puncture was prescribed by a hematologist to a patient with ERYTHREMIA (POLYCYTHEMIA VERA). In the complete blood count - “PLETHORA”:

  • RBC 5.9×10^12 /L,
  • HGB 170 g/L,
  • HCT 52.8%.

ESR 1 mm/hour. The bone marrow biopsy picture, during ongoing treatment, showed no abnormalities. The number of granulocytes - 52.9% (52.7-68.9%), erythroblasts - 21.3% (N 14.5-26.5%). Erythropoiesis is normoblastic.
