Microscopy of urine sediment. Microliths of uric acid crystals x400 Uric acid enters the body with food and is excreted in urine. High levels of uric acid can cause the formation of uric acid crystals in joints and stones. Uric acid crystals can form large conglomerates – microliths. Uric acid crystals found during microscopic examination are usually yellow, dark yellow, or brownish-yellow.
