Leptothrix in Vaginal Smear: Microscopic Features

Explore the morphology and microscopic characteristics of Leptothrix in vaginal smears. Learn about filamentous Leptothrix bacteria on epithelial surfaces and in microflora.

🔬 Vaginal smear. Leptothrix?

📚 Leptothrix is a conditionally pathogenic bacterium belonging to anaerobic gram-negative microorganisms. It has the form of thin filaments resembling hair (“leptothrix” translated from Greek means “thin thread”).

Under certain conditions, Leptothrix bacteria can become pathogenic. This occurs with an imbalance of microflora and a decrease in immunity.
