Macrophages and Emperipolesis in Bone Marrow Aspirate

Bone marrow aspirate microscopy atlas: macrophages with phagocytosis, atypical plasma cells, Barr body in neutrophil, and emperipolesis in a megakaryocyte.

Bone marrow was taken for diagnostic purposes. Many interesting findings were observed in the bone marrow aspirate of the examined patient. A large number of macrophages with remnants of phagocytosed material. How many are in photo 1? If I’m not mistaken - 8. In photos 2,3,4,5 - one macrophage each. In photo 6 - beautiful plasma cells with cytoplasmic inclusions and mitosis. In photo 7 - an unusual, binucleated plasma? cell. In photo 8 - a hypersegmented neutrophil with sex chromatin. In photo 9 - a megakaryocyte with the phenomenon of emperipolesis.
