Megakaryocytes in Bone Marrow in Multiple Myeloma

A clinical case: bone marrow aspirate morphology in multiple myeloma with marked proliferation of the megakaryocytic hematopoietic lineage.

In a patient diagnosed with multiple myeloma, the complete blood count showed mild anemia, high erythrocyte sedimentation rate (108 mm/hour), while leukocytes, platelets, and the leukocyte differential count were normal. In the bone marrow aspirate, the lymphoid lineage was within normal limits (10.7%). Other hematopoietic lineages (granulocytic, erythroid, monocytic) were also unremarkable. The marked proliferation of the megakaryocytic lineage was concerning.
