Plasma Cell Morphology and Atypical Forms

Morphological variants of plasma cells: flaming plasma cells, Mott cells with Russell bodies, and atypical forms with rod-like inclusions.

Morphological diversity of plasma cells:

  • “Flaming” plasma cells - pink staining of the cytoplasm at the periphery;
  • Grape-like cells (Mott cells) with Russell body inclusions (hyaline-like droplets in the cytoplasm, formed during immunoglobulin overproduction by a plasma cell);
  • Cells with rod-like inclusions in the cytoplasm, similar to Auer rods.
