Morphology of Vacuolated Plasma Cells in Blood Smears

Morphological features of plasma cells in blood smears: eccentric nucleus, basophilic cytoplasm with pronounced lacy vacuolization.

🔬 Plasma Cells

Plasma cells have a compact, usually eccentrically located nucleus with coarse chromatin. Nucleoli are not detectable. The cytoplasm is intensely basophilic, bright, and larger in volume than the nucleus. The cells shown in the photographs contain a large number of vacuoles, appearing lacy and even delicate. All cells are from the same slide.
