Morphology of Eucoleus aerophilus Lung Capillaria Eggs

Microscopic features of Eucoleus (Thominx) aerophilus lung capillaria eggs: polar plugs, thin shell, and asymmetric shape. Learn more.

🔬 Another interesting finding — eggs of the lung capillaria Thominx (also known as Eucoleus or Capillaria aerophilus). Magnification 600×. The sample was obtained from a tracheal scraping of a pine marten. This parasite is common in carnivorous animals, but it rarely parasitizes humans. The following features are characteristic of the eggs of this helminth: the presence of characteristic “plugs” at the poles, a relatively thin shell (in comparison, for example, with whipworm or Callodium eggs), and a slight asymmetry of shape.
