Normoblastosis and Dyserythropoiesis in MDS Blood Smear

A clinical case of MDS in a 53-year-old woman: 180 normoblasts per 100 leukocytes in CBC, dyserythropoiesis, 4% blasts, and giant platelets in the smear.

A 53-year-old woman, with a known history of a hematological diagnosis (likely MDS), was almost immediately transferred to a specialized medical facility. In the CBC: 180 normoblasts per 100 leukocytes, signs of dyserythropoiesis, basophilic stippling of erythrocytes and normoblasts, 4% blasts, significant anisocytosis of platelets (up to giant platelets). The leukocyte count has already been recalculated taking into account the number of normoblasts.
