Acute Leukemia: Blood Smear and Bone Marrow Aspirate

A clinical case of acute leukemia in a 63-year-old patient: anemia, thrombocytopenia, 72% blasts in blood, 56% in bone marrow, and erythroid hypoplasia.

A 63-year-old patient presented with anemia, thrombocytopenia, leukocytosis, RBC 2.2×1012/L, HGB 62, WBC 12.34×109/L, PLT 14×10^9/L, ESR 132 mm/hour. In the differential leukocyte count, 72% were blast cells. In the bone marrow aspirate, blasts constituted 56.0%. The erythroid lineage was aplastic. Presumptive diagnosis: acute leukemia. Immunophenotyping (IPT) was recommended.
