Acute Myeloid Leukemia M4: Blast Morphology in Blood

A clinical case of acute myeloid leukemia (AML M4): morphology of blasts in peripheral blood, pancytopenia, and analyzer printout.

Peripheral blood blasts 84%. Acute myeloid leukemia. A patient, since February, while on a business trip in another city, experienced weakness, malaise, fever, shortness of breath, and skin hematomas.

Pneumonia was detected, and acute leukemia was suspected (anemia and thrombocytopenia in the hemogram).

Immunophenotyping (IFT) revealed leukemic cells consistent with AML M4. Myelogram showed 81% blast cells.

Currently admitted for treatment of bilateral pneumonia and, after stabilization, for a course of chemotherapy.
