Acute Myeloid Leukemia with Antecedent Myelodysplastic Syndrome

Bone marrow findings in AML with antecedent MDS: 19.8% blasts, 68% erythroid hyperplasia, dyserythropoiesis, macrophages, and pancytopenia.

In the bone marrow aspirate of a female patient with acute myeloid leukemia, with antecedent MDS, the number of blast cells is increased to 19.8%, and the erythroid lineage is expanded to 68.0%. Among the cells of the erythroid lineage, megaloblasts and binucleated forms are observed. Mitotic figures are shown in photo 2, and macrophages in photos 3, 5, and 7. In the peripheral blood (photo 9), anisocytosis and poikilocytosis of erythrocytes are present.
