Acute Myeloid Leukemia with t(8;21): Morphology and Immunophenotype

A clinical case study of acute leukemia: bone marrow blast cytomorphology, CD19 and CD56 co-expression on immunophenotyping, and suspected t(8;21) translocation.

❗A challenge from the closed club of laboratory hematologists. ✅Male, 28 years old. Blast cells were found in blood and bone marrow. 🔬Bone marrow blast morphology in the images below. 💡Immunophenotyping of bone marrow aspirate revealed a blast population (58.2% of nucleated bone marrow cells) with the following overall phenotype: CD45dim SSCint CD34+ CD117+ cytMPO+ nTdT+ cytCD79a+ CD19+ CD33+ CD13dim+ CD65+ CD38+ HLA-DR+ CD56+ (scatter plots in the image). ❓1. What is the diagnosis? 2. What chromosomal rearrangement can be assumed based on the morphology and phenotype of the blast cells? ⭐The first 3 people who correctly answer these two questions in the comments will receive an invitation to the closed club. ANSWER TOMORROW!
