Creola Bodies in Sputum Analysis for Bronchial Asthma

Creola bodies are complexes of ciliated epithelial cells in sputum, serving as an important diagnostic marker for bronchial asthma.

🔬 Creola bodies in sputum. ❗They represent pseudopapillary complexes of ciliated epithelium. Smaller and less mature cells are located in the center, while hyperplastic cells with a ciliary halo are found at the periphery. Cilia in sputum preparations retain their motility for a long time.

✅ Diagnostic significance. The detection of Creola bodies is one of the laboratory signs of bronchial asthma. They can also be found in the sputum of patients with chronic non-specific lung diseases, especially in severe cases of obstructive bronchitis with an asthmatic component.
