Trichinellosis: Morphology of Trichinella Nematode Larvae

The causative agent of trichinellosis: Trichinella nematode life cycle, migration and encapsulation of larvae in striated muscles, microscopic features.

🔬 Trichinellosis (trichinellosis) is caused by nematodes (roundworms) of the genus Trichinella. Trichinellosis is caused by consuming undercooked meat containing encapsulated larvae. After exposure to gastric acid and pepsin, the larvae are released from the cysts and penetrate the small intestinal mucosa, where they develop into adult worms. Females are 2.2 mm long, males are 1.2 mm. Life expectancy in the small intestine is about four weeks. Females release larvae, which migrate to striated muscles, where they encapsulate.
