Triple Phosphate Crystals in Urine Sediment: Morphology and pH

Morphology of triple phosphate crystals in urine sediment with alkaline reaction (pH 8.0). Causes of struvite appearance and features of microscopic diagnosis.

🔬 Urine Sediment Microscopy. Triple Phosphates. pH 8.0

✅ This salt is very often found in slightly acidic (pH 6.5), neutral (pH 7.0), but most often in alkaline (pH 8.0) or strongly alkaline (pH 10.0) urine, especially during ammoniacal fermentation. Upon centrifugation, a white precipitate forms at the bottom of the test tube, consisting of transparent, colorless, shiny crystals of various sizes in the form of three-, four-, or six-sided rhombic prisms with obliquely descending planes (“coffin lids”).
