Tungiasis, also known as sarcopsyllosis or sand flea disease, is a tropical parasitic disease caused by the flea Tunga penetrans. The disease is characterized by the penetration of the female flea into the skin, the formation of an inflammatory infiltrate, itching, and pain in the affected areas.
