“Ideal” waxy casts. The sample was run on a Sysmex analyzer with an imaging unit. Microphotographs revealed objects resembling mucus with a dense overlay of bacteria or salts. The analyzer did not flag for casts. However, the presence of protein (0.3 g/L), the absence of bacteria according to the analyzer’s corresponding parameter, and the lack of visible salts in the microphotographs raised suspicion. We decided to examine it manually, and it paid off. We managed to see these beauties. Native urine sediment preparation, 400x magnification.
