Corynosoma strumosum Eggs and Larvae: Microscopic Features

Microscopic characteristics of Corynosoma strumosum eggs and larvae in stool and fish tissues: morphological features of the parasite and human infection routes.

Parasitology. A bit of exotica. Corynosoma strumosum eggs. X100, X400, X600. Ringed seal stool. Adult acanthocephalans (Corynosoma) live in the intestines of pinnipeds; however, literature describes cases of infection in fur-bearing animals, cats, dogs, and even humans. Infection occurs by consuming raw fish containing viable larvae. Such larvae (X40) are common in fish from Lake Ladoga and the Gulf of Finland.
