Microscopy Challenge: Spindle-Shaped Structures on Hair

A diagnostic microscopy challenge: how to differentiate spindle-shaped structures on hair – hair scales or pathogenic fungal macroconidia.

An anonymous question from a subscriber. Please help me understand - are the transparent, spindle-shaped elements on the hair elements of the hair (scales), formed under the influence of a fungus, or are they macroconidia, i.e., elements of the fungus?
