Trichinellosis is caused by consuming undercooked meat containing encapsulated larvae. After exposure to gastric acid and pepsin, the larvae are released from the cysts and penetrate the small intestinal mucosa, where they develop into adult worms. Females are 2.2 mm long, males are 1.2 mm. Life expectancy in the small intestine is about four weeks. Females release larvae, which migrate to striated muscles, where they encapsulate.

Trichinella spiralis Larvae in Muscles in Trichinellosis

❗Correct answers to the parasitology problem

Larvae of Trichinella (Trichinella spiralis), the causative agent of trichinellosis, were found in the deceased.

Infection occurs when consuming undercooked meat contaminated with Trichinella larvae. Most often, this is pork, wild boar, or bear meat.
